The Frog is jetting off to Sydney for the Visual Impact Image Expo and it's sure to be a yummy visual display of signage, graphics, light boxes and vinyl.  Some of you may think that getting excited about the latest vinyl wrap or making a 6ft trade banner is a little boring or even kinda geeky, but from a design perspective, the materials you use are a real important aspect of how your finished product will look.  Paper, art board, vinyl, even lighting can determine whether your artwork 'bounces right off the page' or whether it fades into the black.  Remember... signage and display has everything to do with advertising, so if you want your message heard loud and clear, you have to source the best people and materials to put it all together.

For those of you who do get excited about this kind of stuff, we are both on the same page!  It was actually a friend of mine who put me onto this exhibition, and being an experienced screen printer herself, she and I both know how valuable trade shows like this can be for research, exposure and obviously, networking and growing your business.

Anyone ever give you the old phrase 'it's not what you know, it's who you know?'

Well people don't just go around saying that.  It's actually the truth.

Here's a couple of scenarios that you may be familiar with:

- You've gone for a job and there are 50 applicants all with the same qualifications, skills and work experience as you.

- You're in a room full of professionals that do what you do, offer similar services, and seem to be well established.

You think to yourself "how the hell do I stand out from the crowd?!"

Easy.  Talk to people.

If I've said it before, I've said it a thousand times... "all you youth out there who plan on studying forever and think that when it's all over you can land a kickass job... take a step back and think again!"
